Luray Opera Theater was founded to bring the beauty of opera to the Page Valley and surrounding areas, and to provide opera education and stage experience to young opera singers. In partnership with Blue Ridge Youth Theater and Performing Arts Luray, LOT presented its first opera scenes program in the summer of 2010.
Led by Artistic Director, David Newman, the program featured 10 young singers who were in residence from August 4th to the 15th. The program featured classes in acting and voice, an evening of arias on the PAL plaza, and culminated in performances at the BB&T Center for the Performing Arts on August 14th and 15th.
Audiences demanded more, and LOT presented a winter program of Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, in German, with supertitiles, sets and costumes for three performances at the BB&T center, as well as a 40 minute educational outreach performance at Luray Elementary School. The set was built to travel, and we hope to tour this production.
In 2012, we moved to the Trackside Theater in beautiful downtown Luray.
